Don Smith
Defensive Coordinator/Wide Recievers Coach
Coach Smith is now in his fifth year of coaching at on the Freedom staff. Coach Smith calls the defensive signals at the varsity level and also works with the wide recivers at the varsity and junior varsity level. Besides coaching football, Coach Smith coached track as an assistant to Coach Jones. Besides coaching at FHS Coach Smith also teaches ninth grade physical science. Before coaching track at Freedom he coached three years of track with Lawrence University.
Coach Smith also played two years of football at Lawrence University along with four years of track. Coach Smith was a three time champion of the 800 meter run, and held seven school records at Lawrence upon his graduation. At Lawrence he obtained a bachelors degree in geology and enviromental science. Coach Smith attended Appleton North High School where he played four years of football and racked up two ACL tears. One occuring his sophmore years and the other occuring his senior year. Both occured very early in the season. Total, Coach Smith has had 4 knee surgeries.
Coach Smith is married to Jennifer Smith.
Other hobbies he enjoys are running, disc golf, and watching sports.
