Team Policies

Coaches Expectations:

Unity is stressed throughout the program. As coaches and teachers, we will oversee/administer our system on all levels. Our lower level coaches are the MVP’s of the staff. They build the foundation. I am not as concerned with wins or losses on the Frosh-Soph levels as much as I am concerned with the freshmen and sophomores having a positive experience, developing strong fundamental football skills and becoming familiar with our way, The Freedom System. From Day One our freshmen coaches will work with our players to develop their skills for future success at the Varsity level.

ALL student-athletes will receive some playing time at the lower levels. At the Varsity level all attempts will be made to have each student-athlete receive some playing time. As we have the responsibility to field the most competitive team this may not always occur.

Our coaches are committed to teaching the fundamentals of football by placing emphasis on technique drills and repetition in practice, not scrimmaging. Profanity will not be permitted. As coaches, we will teach and coach. We will never question a young man’s courage or humiliate him in front of his teammates, only constructive criticism will be used. We will demand hustle and concentration from our players at all times. Practices will be conducted in an up tempo style.

We never bad mouth our opponents or their programs. We will always show respect towards our opponents.

We will demand that our players respect our facilities and equipment. We will make sure the locker rooms are clean and the gear is well maintained.

We are a team! We will foster an environment where individual commitments will be made to the group effort. Our team is the Superstar!

We will adhere to a “no practice, no play” policy. However, I do reserve the right to handle special situations on an individual basis.

Parents’ Expectations:

Need to understand that the coaching staff does not have the luxury of making decisions solely based on the individual every choice is made with regard to the team’s welfare.

Need to understand that their son’s success is not based on playing time or statistics evaluation should be based on attitude and effort.

Need to know how to deal with their son’s complaints regarding playing time or how demanding or unfair the coaching staff is...

  1. Ask, “Are you really making your best, most unselfish effort you can?”
  2. Direct the athlete to a healthier outlook by encouraging him to do everything he can to improve his attitude or effort.
  3. If the athlete continues in a funk regarding playing time direct them to see the head coach.

This is a “teachable moment.” Please encourage your son to talk with his position coach and/or the head coach. I will not discuss playing time with parents, only players.

The minute a parent engages in the coach or player bashing syndrome, they are setting their son up for failure because his effort level will decrease due to the perceived unfairness and this will cause a downward spiral.

Lettering Policy:

In order to receive a varsity letter in football a student-athlete must average one quarter of playing time per game. I do reserve the right to handle special circumstances on an individual basis.

Cutting Policy:

We will never cut a student-athlete who wants to participate in football. However, students who continue to violate team and school rules will asked to leave the team immediately.
