the off-season is where champions are made...

Why do we need off-season workouts?

Off-season workouts used to be non-exsistant, but with the continuing progression at other area schools these workouts are now nearly a necessity. High school athletes are competing at very high levels. Sometimes we see special athletes that can make the jump from high school to professional, such as Lebron James. The workouts we run for the entire student body at FHS are designed with injury prevention in mind. We focus on flexibility, core stength, speed training, and explosive lifts/plyometrics. The workouts the students do are scaled back versions of what the Wisconsin Badgers run.

Flexibility

Before each workout we warm the students up using several techniques. One of which is called dynamic stretching. Dynamic stretching means that the stretches are done while in motion rather than static stretching which is done with very little motion. Also after the workout the students cooldown using several more dynamic stretches.

Core Strength

Core strength is very important due to the fact that any sport uses the trunk of the body to transmit energy. Whether it's a football player making a tackle or a volleyball player spiking the ball, athletes transmit and generate power in the core of their bodies. This is we want to strengthen the core.

Speed Training

The speed portion of the program relies heavily on teaching form and technique in order to make the running motion more efficient. Also focus is placed on ladders and dot drills which teach the muscle to respond more quickly.

Explosiveness

Explosion is is key for many athletes. A quick transmission of power is key in football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and many other sports. The program relies on plyometrics and lifts such as hang cleans and squats to build explosion.
